Audi intends to build its first US production plant in Georgia, investing around $4 billion and creating approximately 4,500 jobs. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with production of premium SUVs for North American customers planned for the early 2030s.
Audi has announced plans to establish its first production site in the United States, in the state of Georgia. The company says it intends to invest around $4 billion in the project and create approximately 4,500 jobs.
Up to 200,000 vehicles a year
According to Audi, the plant is designed for an annual production capacity of up to 200,000 vehicles. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, and production is planned to start in the early 2030s.
The factory will build premium SUVs tailored to North American customers. Audi has not yet said which models will be made there, or whether they will be combustion, hybrid or fully electric vehicles.
A third pillar alongside Europe and China
Audi describes the investment as a long-term commitment to the United States. The company says it wants to make North America a third major pillar of its global production network, alongside Europe and China. By building SUVs locally, the brand aims to tap into what it calls significant growth potential in one of the world’s most important premium car markets.
What it means
Audi has never built cars in the US before. Its vehicles for American buyers currently come from Europe and from its plant in San José Chiapa, Mexico, which builds the Q5. A US factory would put Audi more in line with its German premium rivals BMW and Mercedes-Benz, both of which have long built SUVs in the US, and would make the brand less exposed to import costs.
The Volkswagen Group, Audi’s parent, already builds cars in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and is building a plant for its Scout Motors brand in South Carolina. The Georgia site would add a third Group production location in the American South.
