Two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson will play the BMW International Open in Munich next year, which BMW says will be his first official tournament in Germany. The 38th edition runs from 26 to 30 May 2027 at Golfclub München Eichenried, about a month earlier than usual. South Africa’s Michael Hollick returns to defend the title he won in July.

An earlier date for Germany’s DP World Tour stop

The BMW International Open is the only DP World Tour event held in Germany, and BMW has staged it in its home city of Munich since 1989. The 2027 edition, the 38th, will again be played at Golfclub München Eichenried. It moves to 26–30 May, roughly one month earlier in the season than in previous years.

According to the organiser, the headline addition to the field is American Bubba Watson. The two-time Masters winner is self-taught and known for an unorthodox, instinctive style that fans call “Bubba Golf”, with its trademark sweeping ball flights. BMW says the Munich event will be his first appearance at an official tournament on German soil.

I’m really looking forward to playing the BMW International Open. It’s a tournament with a lot of history, and you look at the names that have won it over the years, and that’s pretty special. BMW is known in the golfing world for outstanding events, and I’ve seen that firsthand back home in the States. They know how to make it a great experience for the players and the fans. I’m excited to get over to Munich, play a new event, and experience a city that’s so closely connected to BMW.

Hollick returns as defending champion

Michael Hollick won the 2026 tournament in July with a dramatic finish. He needed an eagle on the final hole to win. He took on a risky tee shot, found the green with his second and holed a six-metre (about 20 ft) putt to take the title. BMW calls it one of the most remarkable finishes in the event’s 37-year history. It was also the South African’s first DP World Tour victory.

“The BMW International Open will always have a very special place in my heart. After all, this is where I won my first title on the DP World Tour,” Hollick said. “However, that is far from the only thing that makes it a special tournament. The way we are looked after all week is phenomenal, the facility is fantastic, and the support we receive from the fans is awesome. I can hardly wait to experience all that again.”

Tim Beltermann, head of BMW Germany, said: “We are very pleased that, with Bubba Watson’s debut at the 2027 BMW International Open, we are able to present a two-time Major winner who has that certain something.”

Early-booking discount on tickets

Tickets are now on sale online. To mark the opening of the ticket shop, BMW is taking 10 per cent off all orders placed by Sunday 15 November 2026. Tickets that are already reduced, such as those for juniors, students and people with disabilities, are excluded. The discount also covers the Fairway Club, the hospitality area on the 18th green. Ticket prices were not included in the announcement.

Part of a wider golf programme

The Munich event is one strand of a golf sponsorship that BMW has built up over almost four decades. The company also backs the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth near London (since 2005), the BMW Championship in the USA (since 2007), the BMW Australian PGA Championship and the BMW Ladies Championship in South Korea (since 2019). Its BMW Golf Cup amateur series has run since 1987 and now includes more than 800 qualifying tournaments worldwide.

The 38th BMW International Open takes place from 26 to 30 May 2027 at Golfclub München Eichenried.
