Nissan has taken the covers off the all-new 2027 Rogue Hybrid, the first time its e-POWER series-hybrid system has been fitted to the brand’s best-selling SUV in the United States. The gas engine acts only as a generator, so the wheels are always driven by electric motors. First cars reach US dealers in autumn 2026, with the rest of the range following in early 2027.
Nissan has fully unveiled the all-new 2027 Rogue Hybrid, adding the company’s in-house e-POWER technology to what is its most important nameplate in the United States. The car was shown from Yokohama, and Nissan says the move is meant to answer shifting market conditions and customer expectations while supporting its growth plans in the US over time.
The Rogue is a significant model to hand this powertrain to. Across three generations the SUV has sold close to 4 million units worldwide, and the US is one of Nissan’s three lead markets. The company frames the hybrid as evidence of its longer-term plan taking shape through a stronger line-up, more focused growth and better competitiveness.
How e-POWER works
Unlike most hybrid rivals, e-POWER never sends engine power mechanically to the wheels. The combustion engine runs purely as a generator, and electric motors handle all propulsion. Nissan describes the result as smoother, quicker and quieter than competing hybrid SUVs, and says the Rogue Hybrid is the only hybrid in its segment with a fully electric drivetrain.
The system is not new: Nissan has been refining it over three generations, and close to 2 million e-POWER vehicles have been sold across 68 markets since 2016. For the Rogue, the company says the set-up was tuned specifically for North America, taking local driving preferences and road conditions into account.
“The all-new Rogue Hybrid is exactly what customers have been asking for: the functionality, technology and packaging of a Rogue, now paired with an advanced hybrid powertrain that enhances efficiency while delivering a dynamic driving experience,” said Ponz Pandikuthira, senior vice president, chief product and planning officer, Nissan Americas.
Pandikuthira added that instant torque delivery from a quiet and efficient powertrain “will redefine what hybrid means in this segment”.
Screens and connectivity
Every Rogue Hybrid gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen as standard, with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. A larger 14.3-inch display is optional and brings Google built-in, covering Google Maps, the Play Store and Google Gemini.
What it means
The compact SUV class is where American buyers have moved most decisively towards hybrids, and the Rogue has until now been left to fight that battle without one. A series-hybrid layout gives the car a more EV-like character than the power-split systems used by most competitors, which is the clearest point of difference Nissan can lean on. Production sits at Nissan Motor Kyushu in Japan.
