CUPRA has detailed an updated Born for the Danish market, offered in four versions with outputs from 190 hp to 326 hp. Prices start at DKK 249,990, and the company quotes a range spanning 478 to 624 km (297 to 388 miles) depending on version. The hatchback also gains a revised front and rear end, a new 10.25-inch digital cockpit and a new steering wheel.
CUPRA’s electric hatchback returns with a wider line-up, a reworked exterior and a new interior display. The Spanish brand is presenting the Born in four versions, positioned so that the entry car and the performance flagship sit at opposite ends of a fairly broad spread of power and range.
The entry point at DKK 249,990
The range opens at DKK 249,990 for a Born with 190 hp and up to 481 km (299 miles) of range. CUPRA says this version already comes with a substantial list of standard equipment, and the company argues its interior and exterior quality feel closer to a more expensive segment — a claim buyers will want to judge on a test drive rather than take at face value.
Endurance and VZ above it
Next up is the Born Endurance, which the company quotes at up to 619 km (385 miles) with a higher equipment level for less than DKK 300,000. The flagship is the Born VZ with 326 hp, a quoted range of up to 624 km (388 miles) and what CUPRA calls its full sports package. The manufacturer does not state acceleration or top-speed figures for any version.
Energy use and charging
Across the line-up CUPRA quotes consumption of 14.3–14.6 kWh/100 km and range of 478–624 km (297–388 miles). Under optimal conditions, AC charging from 0 to 100 percent takes up to 8 hours 30 minutes at 11 kW, while DC charging from 10 to 80 percent takes 26–29 minutes at 105–183 kW. Battery capacity is not given. Danish owners pay DKK 460 in half-yearly CO2 ownership tax.
A new face and a new cockpit
The Born gets a new front end and rear bumper, with an integrated diffuser that the company says improves both aerodynamics and the car’s sporting look. Inside, a new 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit brings navigation from Google and Apple Maps directly into the display, and a redesigned steering wheel uses integrated mechanical controls for audio, phone and display functions rather than touch surfaces.
The My CUPRA app handles remote functions including charging scheduling, setting a target battery level and pre-conditioning the cabin climate before departure.
Service on subscription
Alongside the car, CUPRA is promoting CUPRA CARE, a nationwide authorised service and repair subscription for Danish customers, from DKK 229 per month based on 60 months and 30,000 km (about 18,600 miles) per year, for models such as the Born and Tavascan up to 239 hp without all-wheel drive. The minimum cost during the 1+1 month binding period is from DKK 458, and the agreement runs for five years or up to 150,000 km (about 93,000 miles), whichever comes first.
It can be taken out with a factory-new car or no later than 24 months from first registration, and covers labour, replacement of necessary parts, consumable fluids, brake pads and discs, driveshafts, dampers and suspension, wiper blades and bulbs, plus software updates carried out at service. Tyres, wheels, glass, mirrors, retrofitted equipment and accident damage are excluded. There is a 14-day right of withdrawal and one month’s written notice to cancel.
What it means
The Born sits on Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, which puts it directly alongside sister-brand hatchbacks in the same class, and the four-version structure is clearly aimed at letting the same car serve both value-driven and performance-minded buyers. The headline figure is the range: at up to 624 km (388 miles) in quoted form, the top versions are pitched well above what compact electric hatchbacks offered only a few years ago.
