Mercedes-Benz is expanding its Kecskemet factory in Hungary and preparing it for production of the new fully electric C-Class. The company says the move continues the flexible reshaping of its global manufacturing network across the core and compact segments. It marks another step in bringing an all-electric version of one of the brand’s best-known saloons closer to the road.
Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that its plant in Kecskemet, Hungary, will take on production of the new electric C-Class, part of a wider expansion of the site announced on 13 July 2026.
A more flexible factory
According to the manufacturer, the investment is aimed at expanding flexible production of models in the core and compact segments at Kecskemet. In practice that means the plant is being set up to build several model lines — including combustion, hybrid and now fully electric cars — on the same site, giving Mercedes-Benz room to adjust output as demand shifts.
The company frames the step as a continuation of the transformation of its global production network rather than a stand-alone project. Kecskemet has been one of the group’s key European plants for compact and mid-size models, so adding an electric C-Class extends that role into the brand’s next generation of battery-electric cars.
What it means
The C-Class is one of Mercedes-Benz’s highest-volume model lines, so where and how its electric version is built matters for the company’s wider EV plans. Locating production in Hungary places it close to the group’s existing supply base and to major European markets, alongside rivals such as the BMW i5 and upcoming electric offerings from Audi in the same class.
Mercedes-Benz has not yet released technical details for the electric C-Class in this announcement — figures such as power, battery capacity, range, charging speed, pricing and market launch were not stated. Those specifications are expected to follow closer to the car’s reveal.
Mercedes-Benz says production at the expanded Kecskemet site is part of its ongoing manufacturing transformation; a start-of-production date for the electric C-Class was not confirmed in the release.
