Ford Racing has taken victory in the Timed Shoot-Out at the Goodwood Festival of Speed for the third year running. This time the winning machine was the Super Mustang Mach-E, the company’s latest all-electric demonstrator. The result caps another strong showing for Ford’s electric performance programme at the famous hillclimb.
Ford has scored a hat-trick at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The company says its Super Mustang Mach-E won the event’s coveted Timed Shoot-Out, the closing run-off up the hill that pits the weekend’s quickest cars against the clock. It is the third consecutive year that a Ford Racing electric demonstrator has taken the honours.
An electric demonstrator built for the hill
The Super Mustang Mach-E is described by Ford as its latest all-electric demonstrator, a purpose-built prototype rather than a road car. Machines of this kind are designed to showcase the potential of electric powertrains in an extreme performance setting, and the Goodwood hillclimb — a short, steep and technical course through the grounds of Goodwood House — has become a favoured proving ground for them.
Three wins in a row
The victory extends a run of success for Ford Racing at Goodwood. According to the manufacturer, this is the third Timed Shoot-Out win in succession for its electric demonstrators, underlining how quickly battery-electric prototypes have closed the gap to, and in some cases beaten, established combustion machinery at events like this.
What it means
Hillclimb demonstrators are as much a marketing and engineering exercise as a competition, but a repeat win at one of the world’s best-known motoring events is useful proof of concept for Ford’s electric performance ambitions. It keeps the Mustang Mach-E name at the sharp end of the conversation around fast EVs.
Ford did not release detailed technical specifications or timing figures for the Super Mustang Mach-E in this announcement.
