BWT Alpine Formula One Team will run the trucks that carry its cars and equipment around Europe on HVOlution, a pure HVO diesel made by Enilive from 100% renewable raw materials. The change begins this season and covers the European rounds of the FIA Formula One World Championship, with refuelling handled through more than 1,700 Enilive stations. It is the first practical spin-off of the Eni partnership that brought the Italian energy group back to Formula One as the team’s Official Energy and Fuel Partner.
A drop-in diesel for the race trucks
BWT Alpine Formula One Team is moving its European logistics fleet onto HVOlution, Enilive’s diesel biofuel produced from 100% renewable raw materials. From this season, the vehicles transporting the team’s cars and infrastructure between European rounds of the FIA Formula One World Championship will run on the fuel, and the team says the logistics fleet will be set up to use HVOlution exclusively over the coming weeks.
Supply is the practical part of the story. Enilive lists more than 1,700 service stations across the main European countries where the product is available, and refuelling for the team is managed through the Multicard system — so the switch does not depend on bespoke depots or one-off deliveries at each circuit.
What HVOlution actually is
HVO stands for hydrotreated vegetable oil. Enilive produces HVOlution at its biorefineries in Venice and Gela, mainly from waste and residues such as used cooking oils and animal fats rather than from dedicated food crops.
Crucially for a logistics fleet, it is a drop-in fuel: according to the company it requires no modification to engines or to distribution infrastructure, which is what makes a mid-season changeover realistic at all. Enilive says that in 2025, across the entire value chain, the average reduction in CO₂eq emissions from its HVO was 79.5% compared with the reference fossil mix. That figure follows the conventional criterion of the EU Renewable Energy Directive, uses 94 g CO₂eq/MJ as the fossil benchmark, and is weighted on the feedstock batches actually processed at Venice and Gela.
Part of a wider Eni agreement
The deal sits inside the partnership between Eni and BWT Alpine Formula One Team that, last year, marked Eni’s return to the FIA Formula One World Championship as the team’s Official Energy and Fuel Partner. That alliance also covers joint work on future biofuel development for top-level motorsport, so the logistics fleet is effectively the first visible piece of a longer programme.

He added that the initiative makes “a tangible contribution to decarbonizing the logistics of one of the world’s most popular and innovative sports championships” while giving HVOlution international visibility.
Flavio Briatore, Executive Advisor at BWT Alpine Formula One Team, said the project “demonstrates a collaboration that is built on trust” and that what began as a partnership around energy and fuel technology “is becoming increasingly more strategic”.
What it means
Race cars are only a sliver of a Formula One team’s fuel bill; the freight moving between European circuits burns far more diesel than the cars ever do. Targeting that fleet is where the measurable emissions sit, and because HVO needs no new hardware it is the kind of change a team can make without touching its trucks. The wider championship is moving the same way on the sporting side, with the current engine rules built around fully sustainable fuel for the race cars themselves.
