MINI has released camouflaged images of a new, all-road-capable Countryman Edition undergoing final testing in the Rocky Mountains. The company says the special edition takes a more adventurous interpretation of its largest model, with a world premiere set for October 2026. Full technical details remain under wraps for now.

MINI has confirmed that a new, more rugged version of its Countryman is on the way, releasing camouflaged images of the car during what it calls a final round of testing in the Rocky Mountains. According to the manufacturer, the SUV is being put through demanding real-world conditions ahead of a world premiere scheduled for October 2026.

A final test in the Rockies

MINI says the development car has been driven across gravel tracks, rocky terrain and remote mountain routes in the United States, where high altitudes, loose surfaces and rapidly changing weather create conditions the company argues cannot be fully replicated on conventional proving grounds. The vehicle shown wears a distinctive camouflage wrap and, MINI notes, is a development car that is not offered for sale.

The brand frames the exercise as a test of the Countryman’s all-road capability, pitching the model as equally suited to scenic mountain roads and rougher trails. Beyond the setting and the adventurous positioning, MINI has released no technical specifications, powertrain details or pricing.

What it means

The Countryman is the largest model in the MINI range, and a more overtly rugged edition would give the brand a rival to compact crossovers pitched at buyers who want a hint of off-road character. With the current Countryman offered in both combustion and fully electric forms, the key open questions are which powertrains this edition will use and how far its added capability actually goes — none of which MINI has yet confirmed.
