MINI has released a new set of images of the John Cooper Works Convertible finished in Sunny Side Yellow, shot against an alpine backdrop. The open-top JCW remains the most powerful version of the MINI Convertible, with a 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder producing 170 kW (231 hp) and 380 Nm. It covers 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in 6.4 seconds. No technical changes accompany the release.
MINI has issued fresh press material for the John Cooper Works Convertible, presenting the car in the bright Sunny Side Yellow paint finish. The photography was shot in the Alps, where the company positions the open-top model against mountain passes and panoramic landscapes.
This is an image release rather than a product update: MINI states that it is making new pictures of its open high-performance model available, and no new specifications, equipment or pricing are announced alongside them.
The most powerful open MINI
The John Cooper Works Convertible sits at the top of the MINI Convertible range. Power comes from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo petrol engine rated at 170 kW (231 hp), with maximum torque of 380 Nm. MINI quotes 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in 6.4 seconds. A top speed figure is not given in the release.
Official WLTP consumption is 7.1 l/100 km, equivalent to roughly 33 mpg (imperial), with CO₂ emissions of 162 g/km and a CO₂ class of F.
A shrinking corner of the market
MINI describes the car as one of the few convertibles in its class, and that claim is easy enough to place in context. Small four-seat soft-tops have thinned out considerably over the past decade as manufacturers have shifted investment towards SUVs and electric models, leaving the MINI Convertible with few direct rivals at its size and price point. A combustion-engined, manual-roof compact convertible with genuine hot-hatch performance is now an unusual proposition.
That also makes the JCW Convertible something of an outlier within MINI’s own line-up, which has been moving steadily towards electrification. The company has not commented in this release on how long the current petrol JCW Convertible will remain on sale.
What it means for buyers
For anyone already considering the car, nothing has changed mechanically — Sunny Side Yellow is a colour story, not a new variant. The release is a reminder that the configuration exists, aimed squarely at the summer season.
The MINI John Cooper Works Convertible continues in the current range; MINI has not announced any changes to availability.
