BMW M and BMW Motorrad have revealed a joint “100 Jahre Nürburgring” edition ahead of the circuit’s centenary in 2027. Six cars and three motorcycles share an exclusive historical Nürburgring Green paint finish and Nordschleife-themed detailing. The car line-up also introduces BMW M Ignite, the brand’s pre-chamber ignition system, on its inline-six models, with order books opening from September 2026.

BMW M and BMW Motorrad are marking the 100th anniversary of the Nürburgring with a joint special edition spanning nine models — six cars and three motorcycles. Badged “100 Jahre Nürburgring”, the range is tied together by a historical Nürburgring Green paint developed specifically for the edition, and carries the tagline “Born on the Racetrack. Made for the Streets.”

On the car side the edition covers the BMW M2, M3 Sedan, M3 Touring, M4 Coupé, M5 Sedan and M5 Touring. BMW Motorrad contributes the M 1000 RR, M 1000 R and M 1000 XR, each capped at 100 units worldwide.

A shared design language across cars and bikes

The design package leans on three recurring motifs: a “100 Years” logo, the wording “Nürburgring since 1927” and the outline of the circuit itself. On the cars, edition graphics appear on the front doors, C-pillar and rear side sections depending on the model, while roof stripes run across the M carbon roof of the M2, M3 Sedan, M4 Coupé and M5 Sedan, and across the steel roof of the two Touring models. Light grey, Nürburgring Green and black dominate, with green accents on wheels and kidney frames on some models. Buyers who want something more discreet can order Black Sapphire metallic instead.

The motorcycles get a painted fuel tank carrying the Nordschleife silhouette, an airbox cover with an individual “one of 100” marking, carbon wheels with Nürburgring Green accent stripes and an Alcantara-look seat with embroidered “100”. Swingarm and rear frame are finished in black. Standard equipment includes the M Track Package, plus an M Cover Kit for the M 1000 RR and M 1000 R, a branded motorcycle mat and a rear paddock stand.

Inside the cars, black interiors are paired with contrasting green and white stitching. The inline-six models get an M Alcantara steering wheel with a 12 o’clock marker; the M5 pair uses an M steering wheel with the same design signature.

BMW M Ignite joins the inline-six models

The technically significant part sits under the bonnet of the six-cylinder cars. BMW M Ignite, a pre-chamber ignition system patented by BMW, has been fitted to the engines of the M2, M3 and M4 since July and August 2026. According to BMW, it improves efficiency under high load, cuts fuel consumption in track use and helps the engines meet Euro 7 requirements without costing performance. The M5 models continue with the M HYBRID drivetrain.

No edition-specific power, torque or performance figures were released, so the mechanical package otherwise appears to mirror the standard cars.

Why the Nürburgring matters to BMW

“The Nürburgring is much more than just a racetrack for us – it is a second home for BMW M. All our production vehicles are put through their paces on the Nordschleife. With the Edition 100 Jahre Nürburgring, we celebrate our long-standing and successful relationship with the Nürburgring.”

That is Frank van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH. Markus Flasch, CEO of BMW Motorrad, added that “the Nordschleife has been part of the DNA of our M models for years.”

The Nordschleife measures 20.8 km (12.9 miles) and has 73 corners, and BMW uses it to test chassis, powertrain, aerodynamics, brakes and thermal management together under load. BMW Motorrad’s own link to the venue goes back to 1927, the year the brand took its first win there.

Anniversary editions of this kind are familiar territory for German performance brands, but running one across both cars and motorcycles at the same time is less common — and it gives BMW a way to put the new ignition technology in front of buyers with a collectible wrapper around it.

Ordering and availability

The M3 Sedan, M3 Touring, M4 Coupé, M5 Sedan and M5 Touring can be ordered from September 2026, with the M2 following in January 2027. BMW says ordering and availability details for the three Motorrad models will be announced separately. Prices have not been disclosed.
