Mercedes-Benz has opened orders for a wider VLE line-up, headed by the 310 kW VLE 400 4MATIC electric with a claimed 654 km (406 miles) of WLTP range. A fourth equipment package arrives alongside it, and several items that used to be compulsory are now optional, which lowers the barrier to entry on the electric van-based people carrier. German list prices start at €59,441.50 excluding VAT for the five-seat VLE 300 electric.
Mercedes-Benz is expanding the order books for the VLE, the electric people carrier the company markets as a “Grand Limousine”. The additions cover a new range-topping all-wheel-drive model, a further equipment package and a set of features that move from mandatory to optional, opening up seating layouts of up to eight places and a longer list of configuration choices.
A 310 kW flagship with drive to all four wheels
The VLE 400 4MATIC electric is now the most powerful version of the range at 310 kW (around 421 hp), courtesy of an additional electric motor on the rear axle. Mercedes-Benz quotes 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in 6.5 seconds and a usable battery capacity of 115 kWh, good for up to 654 km (406 miles) on the WLTP cycle.
According to the manufacturer, the all-wheel-drive system is aimed mainly at traction and composure in demanding road and weather conditions, with travel, everyday use and professional shuttle work named as the target scenarios. Mercedes-Benz notes that the stated range depends on driving style, ambient conditions, battery ageing, ancillary loads, options, tyres, payload and route profile, and can therefore differ from the WLTP figure.
Towing up to 2.5 tonnes
The VLE 400 4MATIC is rated to tow up to 2.5 tonnes (5,512 lb), which covers caravans as well as boat and horse trailers, and its 100 kg nose weight allows e-bikes to be carried on a suitable rack. ESP trailer stabilisation and a trailer manoeuvring assistant are on hand to make driving with a trailer easier, the company says.
That towing rating is a meaningful number in this class: large electric MPVs and van-based models have often been limited to more modest trailer weights, so it broadens the VLE’s appeal to buyers who would otherwise look at a diesel alternative.
A fourth package and more optional equipment
The new Advanced package takes the VLE up to four equipment packages in total. It adds items including black gloss-turned 48.3 cm (19-inch) alloy wheels in a five-twin-spoke design and darkened rear windows.
Separately, several previously compulsory options have become genuinely optional. Alongside AIRMATIC air suspension, buyers will be able to specify a comfort suspension set-up instead, and AC charging at up to 11 kW is now a selectable item rather than standard fitment — a change that trims the entry price but is worth checking against your home charging set-up before ordering.
Prices for Germany
With standard equipment, the VLE 300 electric starts at €59,441.50 excluding VAT / €70,735.39 including VAT as a five-seater, with the six-seat version from €59,821.50 excluding VAT / €71,187.59 including VAT. Leasing is offered from €529.29 per month excluding VAT / €629.86 including VAT.
The VLE 400 4MATIC with six seats starts at €66,310.08 excluding VAT / €78,909 including VAT, with monthly leasing rates from €649.30 excluding VAT / €772.67 including VAT. The five-seat version begins at €65,926.08 excluding VAT / €78,452.04 including VAT, leasing from €645.54 excluding VAT / €768.19 including VAT. All figures are German private-customer prices as of 8 September 2026, excluding delivery costs; leasing rates are based on a 10% initial payment, a 48-month term and 60,000 km.
