Alpine takes one point at the 2026 Belgian Grand Prix

Franco Colapinto claimed the final points-paying position at Spa-Francorchamps, finishing 10th after a late double overtake. Team mate Pierre Gasly missed out in 11th following a slow pit stop that cost him track position. The result keeps BWT Alpine fifth in the Constructors’ Championship, level on points with Racing Bulls.

BWT Alpine left the 2026 Formula One Belgian Grand Prix with a single point, as Franco Colapinto held on to 10th place at Spa-Francorchamps while team mate Pierre Gasly finished just outside the points in 11th.

How the race unfolded

Gasly lined up 10th on new medium tyres and Colapinto 11th on the same compound. Gasly reported a difficult opening phase and lost ground on the first lap, while Colapinto made early progress to put himself in contention for points.

Both drivers switched to new hard tyres during their stops — Gasly on lap 14, Colapinto on lap 15. Gasly attempted an undercut on Racing Bulls but a relatively slow stop dropped his out-lap into traffic. Colapinto sealed 10th with a late double move down the Kemmel Straight, using a slipstream to pass Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson and then Gasly.

Gasly set the pair’s quickest lap of 1min 51.101secs, with Colapinto close behind on 1min 51.162secs.

Frustration and satisfaction in equal measure

“It was a frustrating race for me, where we finished just outside the points,” said Gasly. “Today, it did not go my way, but the bigger picture is the fact we are not quick enough.”

Colapinto took a more positive view of his afternoon.

“I’m happy to score a point this afternoon in Belgium after finishing in P10,” he said. “It was a long and eventful race, but also quite fun at the wheel with a lot of action happening.”

What it means for the championship

Executive Advisor Flavio Briatore said the point keeps Alpine fifth in the standings but level with Racing Bulls, a rival the team acknowledges has added performance more effectively in recent weeks.

“They have done a much better job than us in recent weeks to add performance to their car and that trend has continued, and probably extended, here in Spa,” Briatore said. According to the team, the focus now is on finding more performance off-track over the summer break.

Alpine, running the A526 from its Enstone base in Oxfordshire, next heads to Budapest for the Hungarian Grand Prix — the final race before the summer shutdown, and, as Colapinto noted, a very different circuit to Spa.
