BMW Motorrad Motorsport has confirmed that Miguel Oliveira will stay with the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team for a second season on the BMW M 1000 RR. The Portuguese rider, who moved to the Superbike World Championship in 2026 after seven years in MotoGP, has already collected four podium finishes in his debut campaign. BMW describes the new agreement as a long-term commitment that runs from 2027 onwards.
BMW Motorrad Motorsport has settled one of its key personnel questions well before the end of the current season. Miguel Oliveira will remain with the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team and continue to race the BMW M 1000 RR in the FIM Superbike World Championship in 2027 and beyond.
From MotoGP to Superbike in one season
Oliveira joined BMW Motorrad Motorsport and the WorldSBK paddock in 2026, arriving from seven years of MotoGP racing. In his first year as a factory rider he has taken four podium finishes so far, with his breakthrough coming early: at his second race weekend on the BMW M 1000 RR, at Portimão, he finished on the podium in all three races.
The season has not been uninterrupted. Oliveira sustained a serious shoulder injury in a crash at the Balaton Park Circuit in Hungary and missed two race events in May and June. According to BMW, he has since worked closely with the team and the factory on his comeback and on returning to the podium — a collaboration the manufacturer says will now continue on a long-term basis.
What the two sides say
Sven Blusch, Head of BMW Motorrad Motorsport, framed the extension as forward planning in the middle of a busy campaign.
“We are delighted to continue our partnership with Miguel over the coming years. Following his move from MotoGP, he settled into our WorldSBK project very quickly and has become an important part of our team, both on and off the track. We enjoyed a very successful start to the 2026 season together, and already at his second race weekend on the BMW M 1000 RR in Portimão, he finished on the podium in all three races. His injury following an unavoidable crash was, of course, a setback, but we are convinced that we can achieve great things together this season and in the years to come.”
Oliveira, for his part, pointed to the groundwork laid in his first year with the brand: “Throughout my career, I’ve learned that success is built on the courage to embrace new challenges and the commitment to keep evolving. Extending my journey with BMW Motorrad Motorsport and ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team is a reflection of the trust we’ve built together and of our shared ambition for the future.”
He added: “We’ve laid the foundations this season, but I believe the best is still ahead of us. I’m excited to continue this journey together and to keep building something we can all be proud of.”
What it means
Rider continuity matters in WorldSBK, where machine development runs closely alongside the racing calendar. Locking in Oliveira for 2027 gives BMW a rider who already has a full season of data on the M 1000 RR, rather than starting a new learning curve next spring. For Oliveira, it confirms that his switch from grand prix racing to production-based superbikes has become a settled career move rather than a one-year experiment.
The announcement covers 2027 “and beyond”; BMW has not stated the exact length of the agreement.
