Mercedes-AMG has opened the order books for the new CLA 45 4MATIC+, an all-electric compact performance model with three axial-flux motors and a system output of 500 kW (680 hp). The saloon starts at 79,039 euros including VAT in Germany, with the Shooting Brake from 80,408 euros. AMG says the car recently set a segment record on the Nürburgring Nordschleife with a lap of 7:32.070.
The electric Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 4MATIC+ can now be ordered through sales partners and online, Mercedes-Benz announced from Affalterbach on 27 August 2026. It is the performance flagship of the new compact CLA family and, unlike the combustion-engined 45 models that carried the badge before it, it runs entirely on electricity.
Three motors, 680 hp and 1,759 Nm
The drivetrain uses three axial-flux motors combined with an 800-volt architecture, a pairing the company describes as offering exceptionally high power density. System output is 500 kW (680 hp) and maximum torque is quoted at 1,759 Nm. Mercedes-AMG states 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in 2.7 seconds, measured with a one-foot rollout, which is the standard practice in several markets and shaves a fraction off the figure compared with European convention.
Because all three motors are fully decoupled from one another, torque can be shifted freely between the front and rear axles, and also between the two rear wheels for torque vectoring. AMG calls the result a newly conceived, fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system.
Range and charging
Despite the performance, the saloon is rated at more than 670 km (416 miles) of range, with combined energy consumption of 18.7–16.5 kWh/100 km and a WLTP CO₂ figure of 0 g/km. The Shooting Brake is quoted at 19.6–17.4 kWh/100 km; no separate range figure is given for the estate. Charging from 10 to 80 percent state of charge takes 22 minutes at a suitable fast charger, according to the manufacturer.
Chassis and active aerodynamics
The CLA 45 rides on a steel-sprung AMG RIDE CONTROL chassis with adaptive three-stage damping. All wheel-location components, springs and dampers were reworked, the company says, to raise maximum lateral acceleration while keeping the car manageable at the limit.
Both body styles get active aerodynamics, which Mercedes-AMG describes as a first in the segment: an active rear spoiler on the saloon and a roof-edge spoiler on the Shooting Brake, each taking different angles depending on the drive programme or manual selection — flat to cut drag and extend range, or raised to add downforce and stability. Further developed active cooling louvres in the nose stay closed up to high speeds and open only when cooling demand requires it.
What it means
A 680 hp compact car places the CLA 45 well above the traditional hot-hatch and compact-sport class it descends from, and the Nordschleife time the company cites — 7:32.070, which AMG says is a record for its segment — is the sort of number normally associated with far larger machinery. For buyers, the more relevant point may be the combination of that output with a quoted range beyond 670 km, an area where fast electric compacts have often had to compromise.

German prices are 66,420 euros excluding VAT (79,039 euros including VAT) for the saloon and 67,570 euros excluding VAT (80,408 euros including VAT) for the Shooting Brake, in both cases before delivery or factory-collection costs. Pricing for other markets has not been announced.
