MINI has revealed the 1965 Victory Edition, a special edition that recalls the Mini Cooper S win on the 1965 Monte Carlo Rally with Timo Mäkinen and Paul Easter aboard. It borrows the historic car’s Chili Red paint, Glazed White roof and mirror caps, and its number 52. The edition can be ordered on the MINI Cooper S, the MINI John Cooper Works and the all-electric MINI John Cooper Works Electric.

MINI is turning one of the defining results in its competition history into a showroom model. The 1965 Victory Edition references the Mini Cooper S victory on the 1965 Monte Carlo Rally, driven by Timo Mäkinen and Paul Easter, and applies the look of that car to the current range.

A livery lifted from the rally car

The exterior pairs Chili Red bodywork with a Glazed White roof and mirror caps, plus a white stripe that runs over the bonnet, roof and rear. Starting number 52 appears as it did on the winning car. MINI adds “1965” lettering on the C-pillar, edition-specific wheel hub caps and valve caps, and 18-inch wheels.

The theme carries into the cabin. Entry sills wear the same “1965” lettering, and a dedication sits on the inside of the door alongside further edition details. The company describes the package as combining the historic look with modern MINI performance and the brand’s go-kart handling character.

Three powertrains, one theme

Rather than tying the edition to a single car, MINI offers it across the MINI Cooper S, the MINI John Cooper Works and the MINI John Cooper Works Electric. That last one is notable: it means the tribute to a 1960s rally result is also available with a fully electric drivetrain, something few heritage editions can currently claim.

MINI has not published power outputs, performance figures, pricing or an on-sale date for the Victory Edition models in this announcement. The release does list official consumption and emissions data for each version.

Consumption and emissions

The MINI Cooper S Victory Edition is quoted at 6.7 l/100 km combined (WLTP) with CO₂ emissions of 150 g/km, CO₂ class E. The MINI John Cooper Works Victory Edition is rated at 6.6 l/100 km combined with 149 g/km, also CO₂ class E. The MINI John Cooper Works Electric Victory Edition is listed at 15.5 kWh/100 km combined with 0 g/km at the tailpipe and CO₂ class A.

What it means

Heritage-themed special editions are a familiar tool for brands with a deep motorsport back catalogue, and MINI has more to draw on than most: the Monte Carlo results of the mid-1960s remain the strongest link between the original Mini and competition success. Spreading the treatment across combustion and electric versions lets MINI use that history to frame its EV performance model rather than leaving it to the petrol cars alone.
