A Nissan Qashqai fitted with the latest-generation e-POWER hybrid system has covered 1,980 km on a single tank of fuel in Colombia, earning a Guinness World Records title. The run, made between Bogotá and the Caribbean coast in July 2026, was monitored and certified by Guinness World Records judges. It is the third long-distance demonstration of e-POWER after earlier drives in the United Kingdom and Australia.

Nissan says its Qashqai with next-generation e-POWER has claimed a Guinness World Records title for the longest journey completed by a non-plug-in extended-range electric SUV without external charging or refuelling. The car covered 1,980 km (1,230 miles) on one tank.

From Bogotá to the Caribbean coast

The attempt ran in Colombia from 14 to 17 July 2026, starting in the capital Bogotá and finishing at the Caribbean coast. According to Nissan, the route deliberately mixed road types, traffic levels and driving conditions rather than sticking to steady-speed highway running.

Every stage was independently monitored by Guinness World Records judges, and the title was confirmed after what the organisation describes as a detailed review process. Nissan has not published the fuel consumption figure or tank capacity behind the distance.

How e-POWER works

e-POWER differs from a conventional full hybrid in one important respect: there is no mechanical link between the petrol engine and the wheels. The wheels are driven only by an electric motor, while the combustion engine acts purely as a generator, producing electricity for the battery and motor. The result, the company says, is the instant response and refinement of an electric car without the need to plug in.

The latest version of the system uses what Nissan calls a 5-in-1 modular powertrain, packaging the electric motor, generator, inverter, reducer and increaser into a single compact unit. Together with regenerative braking, the setup is designed to keep optimising how energy is used.

Part of a wider campaign

The Colombian run follows earlier long-distance e-POWER challenges in the United Kingdom and in Tasmania, Australia. Nissan frames the series as evidence that the technology performs consistently across different terrain, climates and everyday driving situations.

The wider argument is a familiar one in a market where charging infrastructure remains uneven. Series-hybrid systems of this type — Nissan’s e-POWER among them — aim to give buyers an electric driving feel while keeping refuelling as simple as it has always been, which is a meaningful selling point for drivers who cannot charge at home.

What it means

Record runs are, by definition, optimised events rather than typical use, and no customer should expect 1,980 km between fuel stops in daily driving. Still, the Qashqai is one of Europe’s best-selling family SUVs, and e-POWER is central to how Nissan positions it against conventional hybrids from Toyota, Honda and Hyundai.
