Peugeot is celebrating two long-running commercial models: the compact Partner van, now 30 years old with more than 2.6 million sales, and the Traveller people-carrier, which turns 10. The French brand is using the milestones to underline its standing in Europe’s light commercial vehicle market and to trail new versions of both.
Peugeot has put a spotlight on two of its best-selling workhorses, tying together a pair of anniversaries in its light commercial vehicle line-up. The compact Partner van reaches 30 years on sale, while the Traveller passenger carrier marks a decade. According to the manufacturer, the Partner has passed more than 2.6 million units across three generations, counting the Rifter people-carrier derivative.
Three generations of the Partner
The first Partner arrived in 1996, and Peugeot says it reshaped the compact van segment by pairing a roomy load bay with a level of driving comfort that was uncommon for the class at the time. A second generation followed in 2008, growing in size to add load volume and payload while improving refinement.
The current third-generation Partner launched in 2018 and was substantially updated in 2023. Built on Peugeot’s EMP2 platform, it brought the i-Cockpit dashboard layout across from the brand’s passenger cars and, significantly, added the fully electric E-Partner alongside petrol and diesel engines. It is sold in standard and long-wheelbase forms, the latter also offered as a crew van. Peugeot says a mild-hybrid version will join the range from 2027.
New Partner Active and Pro Skill versions
The company continues to broaden the line-up. The Partner Active, revealed in June 2026, is pitched as a more accessible entry point and introduces a modular Flexiseat passenger seat whose cushion folds vertically in seconds, which Peugeot says frees up to 0.5 m³ of extra load space.
A more rugged Partner Pro Skill will be shown at the IAA Transportation event in Hanover from 14 to 20 September. It comes as standard with a Construction Pack — raised ground clearance, engine underbody protection and Grip Control with Hill Descent Assist — and can be ordered with a Dangel-developed four-wheel-drive conversion for tougher operating conditions.
Traveller: ten years as a shuttle
The Traveller launched in 2016, also on the EMP2 platform, as Peugeot’s flexible passenger transporter. It is offered in diesel and as the fully electric E-Traveller, in two lengths and a range of configurations seating up to nine people plus luggage — a spread aimed at both businesses and large families.
The model has become a familiar VIP shuttle at events Peugeot partners, including the César Awards, BAFTA Film Awards, Cannes Film Festival, Alpe d’Huez International Comedy Film Festival and Venice Film Festival, as well as at rounds of the FIA World Endurance Championship.
What it means
The anniversaries double as a preview of where both vans are heading: a wider Partner range spanning value, rugged and eventually mild-hybrid versions, and a Traveller that keeps a foot in both the electric and diesel camps. In a European commercial market where operators increasingly weigh electrification against payload and cost, keeping combustion, mild-hybrid and battery options on the same platforms is Peugeot’s way of covering every fleet buyer.
The Partner Pro Skill makes its public debut at IAA Transportation in Hanover in September.
