Volkswagen has opened pre-sales for a new entry-level version of its all-electric ID. Polo, fitted with a smaller 37-kWh battery. The company says the variant offers up to 334 km of WLTP range and starts at 24,995 euros in Germany, positioning it as a value-focused city car. It arrives just weeks after the 52-kWh ID. Polo, expanding a range that has already drawn strong early orders.
Volkswagen is broadening the ID. Polo line-up with a more affordable variant built around a 37-kWh (net) battery. According to the manufacturer, the smaller pack delivers an everyday range of up to 334 km on the WLTP cycle, aimed squarely at urban driving and regular commuting rather than long-distance touring.
Pre-sales start immediately. The entry Trend model opens at 24,995 euros, while the higher Life and Style trims can also be paired with the 37-kWh battery from 29,195 euros. Volkswagen notes that all quoted prices and specifications refer to the German market.
Two power outputs and quick DC charging
Buyers can choose between two output stages: 85 kW (116 PS) and 99 kW (135 PS). Both can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in around 23 minutes at DC fast-charging stations delivering up to 90 kW, which comes as standard. Volkswagen lists combined energy consumption of 14.8–13.3 kWh/100 km for the 85 kW version and 14.9–13.6 kWh/100 km for the 99 kW version, with zero tailpipe CO₂ emissions.
The company frames the smaller battery as a way to trim costs. It points to a lower purchase price, a favourable insurance rating and efficient running as factors that should reduce everyday operating expenses for price-conscious buyers.
What each trim brings
Even the entry Trend model gets the 90 kW quick-charge function as standard, alongside Side Assist and Lane Assist with Emergency Assist, LED headlights, a 10-inch Digital Cockpit, a 13-inch Innovision infotainment system and automatic air conditioning.
The mid Life trim adds adaptive cruise control, a rear-view camera, front and rear park distance control, Front Cross Traffic Assist, wireless App Connect for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, inductive phone charging and a variable boot floor.
At the top, the Style specification brings IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights, 3D LED tail lights, an illuminated Volkswagen badge and sport comfort seats. It also introduces an upgraded ID. Light strip that, for the first time, extends into the front doors and can warn of approaching road users before a door is opened.
Volkswagen adds that options rarely seen in this class are available, including a Harman Kardon system with 425 watts and 10 speakers, a panoramic glass roof and 12-way electric front seats with a pneumatic massage function.
What it means
The 37-kWh ID. Polo undercuts the recently launched 52-kWh model and gives Volkswagen a lower price of entry into its electric range, competing with compact EVs pitched at cost-aware city drivers. The manufacturer says its new “Electric Urban Car Family,” of which the ID. Polo is part, has already gathered more than 70,000 orders in a few weeks, including 25,000 for the ID. Polo itself.
