The BMW Group delivered 1,707,799 vehicles worldwide in the first nine months of 2026, down 4.9% on last year. Deliveries rose in Europe and the US, but a sharp fall in China pulled the global total down. Electric cars made up a growing share of the mix, and in Europe one in three vehicles delivered in the third quarter was fully electric.

Europe and the US gain, China falls

Between January and September 2026, BMW Group deliveries in its Europe sales region rose 4.5% to 732,279 vehicles. In the US they climbed 3.4% to 307,402 units. Germany, where the figures are provisional registrations, grew 7.5% to 224,149 vehicles.

China went the other way. Deliveries in the China sales region fell 21.8% to 376,128 vehicles over the nine months, and dropped 24.8% to 114,355 units in the third quarter alone. The company says the BMW brand’s fall in China (-21.2% year to date) matches how the Chinese car market as a whole has performed. The China version of the new BMW iX3 is due to start rolling out there in November.

The Fourth Pillar sales region, which covers Asia-Pacific, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa, was down 10.0% to 222,556 units. For the third quarter, group automotive deliveries fell 6.3% to 551,072 vehicles.

Electric cars gain ground in Europe

In the third quarter, the group delivered 110,257 fully electric vehicles worldwide, up 7.2%. Europe stood out: BEV deliveries there rose 37.5% to 81,941 units, which means 34.7% of all BMW Group vehicles handed over in the region during the quarter were fully electric. According to the company, Germany saw an even steeper rise in fully electric deliveries, up 38.5%.

Over the full nine months, BEV deliveries came to 314,552 units (-2.7%). Electrified models, meaning BEVs and plug-in hybrids together, reached 446,202 units (-5.1%).

BMW credits much of the momentum to the new iX3, the first production model built on its Neue Klasse platform. The company says the car passed 100,000 orders in Europe within a year, which it calls the most successful market launch of any BMW Group model so far.

“In difficult market conditions, we were able to hold our own in Europe and the US. The continued strength in new orders for our fully electric vehicles, in particular, confirms our course. The BMW iX3 is providing positive impetus for growth in the market, and we are also seeing strong customer interest in the new BMW 3 Series and BMW X5,” said Jochen Goller, the BMW AG board member responsible for Customer, Brands, Sales.

Goller added: “The product momentum generated by our Neue Klasse models and Neue Klasse technologies strengthens our position for the challenges ahead.”

How the brands performed

The BMW brand delivered 1,483,960 vehicles in the first nine months, down 6.4%. It grew 1.4% in Europe. In the US it grew 4.3% even though the overall market there shrank, and the company puts this down to stronger sales of its X models. BMW M GmbH delivered 148,510 vehicles (-6.1%), and the company says M sales held steady in China.

MINI was the group’s strongest performer. Its deliveries rose 6.8% to 220,247 vehicles, and 37.2% of them were fully electric. The company says John Cooper Works models and the MINI Paul Smith Edition helped drive the growth, and it expects the new MINI Countryman Untamed Edition to add more.

Rolls-Royce delivered 3,592 cars (-12.4%). BMW Motorrad sold 149,452 motorcycles and scooters (-6.1%).

What it means

The numbers show a premium carmaker whose fortunes now differ sharply by region. Steady gains in Europe and the US, together with fast-growing electric sales in Europe, are not enough to make up for the slump in China, still one of BMW’s largest markets. How the China-specific iX3 performs there from November will be an important test for the Neue Klasse strategy.
