BMW Group says it delivered its two-millionth fully electric vehicle to a customer in August 2026, a milestone the company ties to the ramp-up of its Neue Klasse family. Counting plug-in hybrids as well, around 3.5 million electrified BMW Group vehicles are now in customer hands. In Europe, battery-electric models accounted for 28 percent of the group’s sales in the first half of 2026.
The two-millionth electric BMW
BMW Group reached a symbolic point in its electrification programme this month: according to the manufacturer, the two-millionth battery-electric vehicle from the group was handed over to a customer in August 2026. The company presents the figure as evidence that its Neue Klasse generation of electric models is accelerating demand rather than simply replacing it.
The announcement is a cumulative total — it covers every fully electric car the group has delivered to date across its brands, not a single year’s performance.
Electrified cars are now a quarter of sales
The wider electrified fleet, which the company counts as battery-electric cars plus plug-in hybrids, stands at roughly 3.5 million vehicles in customer hands. In the first half of 2026, BMW Group says more than one in four vehicles it sold worldwide was electrified.
That ratio matters because it describes the mix of what is being sold today, not a target for later in the decade. It also underlines how far plug-in hybrids still contribute to the total alongside pure EVs.
Europe leads on pure electric
Europe remains the group’s strongest region for battery-electric cars. The company reports a BEV share of 28 percent in Europe for the first half of 2026 — well above its global electrified average, and a reflection of the tighter CO2 rules and denser charging networks that shape the European market.
Neue Klasse as the growth engine
BMW frames the Neue Klasse — its dedicated electric architecture with a new 800-volt electrical system, cylindrical cells and a fresh software stack — as the driver behind the curve steepening from here. The press photo issued with the announcement shows the new iX3 50 xDrive, the first production model built on that platform.
The release does not break the two million total down by model, brand or year, so it is not possible to say from the material how much of the volume the Neue Klasse itself has contributed so far.
What it means
For buyers, the headline number is less interesting than what sits behind it: a manufacturer with two million electric cars already delivered has a large enough installed base to justify long-term parts, software and battery support — a practical consideration for anyone buying an EV to keep.
For the market, it places BMW among the small group of established European makers operating electric vehicles at genuine scale, at a moment when several rivals have slowed or rescheduled their own electric plans. The 28 percent European BEV share in particular suggests the transition is progressing faster in the group’s home region than the global figures alone imply.
