BMW Motorrad has revealed the R 12 G/S in the specification riders will use at the International GS Trophy 2026 in Romania. The competition machine is built on the standard R 12 G/S and loaded with off-road accessories, from an Enduro Package Pro to an Akrapovič silencer. It is not sold in this exact form, but BMW says owners can largely recreate it themselves.

BMW Motorrad has presented the competition motorcycle for the International GS Trophy 2026, and it is a heavily equipped version of the R 12 G/S. The event returns to Europe in late summer 2026, sending the country teams across Romania’s mountains, forests, rivers and remote villages — terrain the company says demands both riding skill and the right hardware.

Built on the R 12 G/S

The GS Trophy Competition Bike is designed exclusively for the event, which has been held since 2008, and uses the R 12 G/S as its base. According to BMW, the machine is fully kitted out for off-road use through a specific range of accessories rather than a bespoke platform.

The specification starts with the Comfort Package, which brings Hill Start Control, Gear Shift Assist Pro, heated grips and cruise control. On top of that sit Headlight Pro with adaptive cornering light, Riding Modes Pro, and the Enduro Package Pro, the latter adding off-road tyres, an 18-inch rear wheel and handlebar risers.

Off-road hardware

For the rough stuff, the bike gains engine protection bars, cylinder head covers, a Rally cockpit fairing and navigation preparation. An Akrapovič silencer handles the exhaust, while a 5-litre tank bag is fitted as a rear bag to round out the kit.

The colour scheme is a Lightwhite uni base with blue tank tapes and a red seat — a nod to BMW Motorrad Motorsport’s colours and, the company says, a clear signal of the bike’s sporting, off-road purpose.

Can you buy one?

Not exactly. BMW states the competition machine is not offered for sale in this precise form, but customers can recreate it on the basis of a standard R 12 G/S, with only minor differences such as the decals. In other words, most of the parts are available through the accessories catalogue.

What it means

The GS Trophy has long doubled as a showcase for BMW’s large-capacity adventure range, and using the retro-styled R 12 G/S here puts a classically flavoured boxer twin into the most demanding shop window BMW runs. For buyers, it is also a useful template: a factory-endorsed parts list for turning the road-going R 12 G/S into a serious off-road tool.
